Who We Are
Our Vision
True Light Baptist Church is a Bible-based, Christ-centered, and Kingdom-focused church in Houston, Texas. We exist to glorify God and make disciples of Christ who Grow in the Word and Faith, and Serve Christ in the Church, Community and World.
Salvation
We desire to reach thousands in our city with the gospel of Jesus Christ, breaking the cycle of sin, and leading families to serve the True and Living God (Matthew 28:19-20; Colossians 1:13). Our goal is to lead boys and girls in coming to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, to serve Christ at an early age (Matthew 19:14), and to serve God all of the days of their lives.
Spiritual Growth
To strengthen each member to grow in their relationship with Christ through the Word of God (Acts 2:41-42; 2 Timothy 3:16). This is accomplished through preaching, teaching, and discipleship for all age levels.
Families
To lead men to become wise and godly leaders in their homes, churches, and communities, to be loving fathers to their children (2 Timothy 2:2; Luke 1:17 ). To strengthen women to be godly wives and mothers. To encourage single men and women to live godly lives, and to lead single parents as they lead their households (Proverbs 31:10-12). To challenge youth to be godly, outstanding young men and women (1 Timothy 4:12).
Marriage
To promote God’s idea of a godly, loving marriage (Hebrews 13:4). To teach husbands to love their wives and wives to respect their husbands. To lead them in developing a marriage that is a picture of Christ and the church.
Our History
In November 1995, God started a new church in Houston, Texas.
True Light Baptist Church began as a mission work sent out by Grace Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Memphis, Tennessee. With a burden to reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Pastor Kim Williams arrived in Houston shortly after graduating from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in 1994. His desire was simple but urgent —to preach God’s Word, win souls to Christ, and establish a New Testament church that would faithfully carry out the Great Commission.
The church’s first home was the clubhouse of Coppertree Village Apartments at 1415 W. Gulf Bank Road. There, a small group of believers gathered to worship, pray, study the Bible, and share the Gospel with their community. Though the congregation was small, the vision was large: to shine the light of Christ throughout Houston and wherever God would open doors for ministry.
For more than a decade, God blessed the ministry as people came to faith in Christ, believers were discipled, and the church continued to grow. Then, in 2007, God provided a new opportunity when True Light Baptist Church moved into the former Northwood Baptist Church building. This new location gave the church greater opportunities to minister to families, serve the community, and expand its outreach efforts.
Two years later, in 2009, the Lord demonstrated His continued faithfulness when the church property was given to True Light Baptist Church. What began in an apartment clubhouse had now become a permanent home for worship, fellowship, discipleship, and ministry. It was a testimony to God’s provision and blessing upon the work He had established.
Throughout its history, True Light Baptist Church has remained committed to the timeless truths of God’s Word. Through biblical preaching, evangelism, discipleship, missions, and community outreach, the church has sought to be a beacon of hope and truth in Houston. While methods may change, the mission remains the same: to glorify God by making disciples and proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Today, after more than thirty years of ministry, we continue to celebrate God’s faithfulness. We thank Him for every soul saved, every life changed, every family strengthened, and every opportunity to serve. As we look to the future, our prayer is that True Light Baptist Church will continue to shine brightly, pointing people to Jesus Christ the True Light who gives salvation, direction and meaning to men’s lives John 1:9.
